Iridium Short Burst Data
Iridium’s global, low latency Short Burst Data (SBD) service is the ideal solution for machine-to-machine (M2M) communication to and from anywhere on Earth. The service uses a very small, rugged terminal with standard interfaces and low power consumption to enable communicating with everything from containers and trucks to planes and ships. Applications are limited only by imagination. SBD is currently integrated into world-wide applications that serve industries such as Oil & Gas, Rail, Maritime, Aeronautical, Utilities, Scientific Research, and Government/Military.
Iridium SBD is a simple network transport capability for transmitting short data messages between equipment and a centralized system. Messages can be text or binary. Multiple messages can be sent over a short interval of time.
At the terminal, an RS-232 serial interface provides bi-directional communications with the terminal and enables messages to be sent and received. From the infrastructure side, a standard email or IP-based interface is available.
