Iridium Short Burst Data
Iridium SBD is a simple network transport capability for transmitting short data messages between equipment and a centralized system. Messages can be text or binary. Multiple messages can be sent over a short interval of time. At the terminal, an RS-232 serial interface provides bi-directional communications with the terminal and enables messages to be sent and received. From the infrastructure side, a standard email or IP-based interface is available. SBD Service Specifications: Message Latency: Varies with application – typically under 20 seconds SBD Capable Devices: Iridium 9522A&B, 9555, 9601, 9602 Mobile Originated Maximum Message Size: 340 bytes (9601 & 9602), 1960 (9522A&B) Mobile Terminated Maximum Message Size: 270 bytes (9601 & 9602), 1890 (9522A&B) Minimum Message Size (Billing): 10 bytes
